The NDIS, Amaranth Foundation & Therapeutic Supports

The NDIS provides therapeutic support funding to eligible people based on their individual needs. The therapeutic supports are given by a range of clinicians that cover your different needs, including your mental, physical and social wellbeing. The supports you may receive are designed to help you improve your functional skills and independence.

AMARANTH FOUNDATION, SOCIAL WORK AND THE NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) aims to provide community linking and individualised support for people with permanent and significant disability, their families and carers.

Social Work and the NDIS

The NDIS is creating new roles for social workers. Social workers have the knowledge, skills and expertise to provide supports at numerous levels including as local area coordinators, planners, community development and direct practice roles. Social workers can become providers and be registered through the NDIS to provide a wide range of supports including:

  • Therapeutic supports (individual and group therapy and counselling)
  • Early intervention supports for early childhood
  • Behaviour support
  • Specialised assessment of skills, abilities and needs, including mental health assessments
  • Assistance in coordinating or managing life stages, transitions and supports
  • Assistance with accommodation/tenancy.
